Office moving can be a complex and time-consuming undertaking. You don’t want your relocation to impact your business continuity, so here are some tips to enable you to move in an efficient and stress-free manner.


Home moves are an ideal opportunity to declutter and get rid of anything you no longer need. Office moves are no exception to this rule. Do you have anything sitting in corners or office cupboards unused for months or years? Maybe redundant furniture, computers or printers. Take a methodical walk around your office space and figure out what you do and don’t need. You may be surprised by how much you can get rid of! Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that the cost of office space continues to rise, and decluttering can help to reduce the square footage you need to pay for in your new location.

Don’t let unnecessary paperwork clog up your new office space. It’s a good idea to shred and dispose of any documents you don’t need before your move. You can meet your GDPR requirements and protect yourself from data thieves by using Perry’s Data Shred. We provide a secure and confidential service, and are credited with a British Standard, BS EN 15713 – ‘Secure destruction of confidential material’ and so are ideal for commercial clients. You can also be sure that with our strong commitment to the environment and reducing our carbon footprint, that the paper shredded is sent back to a paper mill to be reused.

It’s possible to book a one-off collection before your move, and then, if required, something more regular once you’ve settled into your new office space. If you book regular collections, we provide a bin (for either inside the office or out) which is emptied at a pre-arranged date and time into bags to be removed and shredded off-site. Special rates are offered for large quantities. The collections could be weekly, monthly or bespoke. For one-off collections, bags are provided, along with security tags for sealing. With either type of collection, a Certificate of Destruction will be sent to you once the paper has been securely disposed of.

If you find you have too much to move, or you need to keep documents safely off-site, Perry’s have excellent storage or document storage facilities. If you have larger items or seasonal items that aren’t needed regularly you may well find that it is cheaper to let us store them for you rather than take up premium space in your office. Video surveys started to become more common during the Covid crisis as the only possible option but have fast become the norm for removals companies due to the benefits they offer. Customers and clients no longer need to book days off work for the sole purpose of arranging an on-site home or office survey; now it can be done over WhatsApp or Facetime, on a day and time when it’s convenient.

The benefits of video surveys
As well as the convenience and efficient time-saving aspect of connecting virtually, it’s a great way for us as a company to reduce our carbon footprint. Reducing the use of cars reduces our CO2 emissions. And you can be sure that the service we provide is of the same quality whether via video or face-to-face.

How does it work?
All you need is a fully charged smart phone or tablet with WhatsApp or Facetime installed, along with a good wi-fi connection. We’ll call you up and our experienced video surveyor will have a chat and explain what you need to do. If you have any queries, you can ask them on the call. The surveyor will then ask you to move around your home or office pointing your device at all relevant items and will consult with you as you go. Examples of areas you could be asked to film are:

  • External areas: to show the access and parking, along with the contents of the garden, shed and garage which are to be moved.
  • Internal areas: to show the contents and furniture in each room (including the attic) which are to be moved.

Both face-to-face and video surveys are part of our free, no obligation quoting service so there’s no charge.

What happens after the survey?
Once the survey has been completed, our surveyor will prepare a written quotation to send over to you.

Why use short-term storage between moves

Removals and storage go hand in hand, as one often leads to the need for the other. There are a whole bunch of reasons why you might need or want to store your possessions when you move house. You may want to redecorate or renovate your new home, you could be between houses, maybe there’s a problem on moving day or you could be moving abroad or for work.

Redecoration and renovation
Most new homes need some work, and usually it’s impossible to do this prior to moving. It’s going to be way easier to redecorate or knock down that wall without all your furniture and possessions in the way.

Between moves
To avoid being in a chain, it could be that you decide to sell your house first and then rent before you find your new home. If this is your chosen option, then the house you rent may be smaller or full or part furnished, and so may not have enough room for all your furniture and possessions.

Unforeseen problems
It could be that you’ve sold your home and suddenly the chain falls through at the last minute.

Moving abroad or for work
Your move may be temporary, or you may need to store some furniture and belongings before you find a new property.

Container Storage
Whatever the reason, sometimes the moving process is more complicated than you’d like it to be! So, what do you do with all your possessions? Perry’s temporary container storage is the answer. It’s a really convenient way of storing household goods if you don’t need access to them in between moves.

Note: Many people who consider longer term storage for their belongings opt for self-storage for the benefit of access. Not only is this a more expensive option, but research also shows that most people who pay for this convenience rarely visit their chosen facility, so ask us about how much you can save with container storage.

Once your items have been wrapped and packed at your house, they are loaded into wooden ‘breathable’ storage containers held inside a purpose-built removal van (pantechnicon). The containers are then sealed and transported to our depot where they are stored in our secure warehouse until you are ready to have them delivered to your new home.

Each container is meticulously inventoried before it’s sealed, and your goods can be held for the short or long term. Larger or more awkward items can be held on shelves and racking and insurance can be obtained at the time of booking.
