How to make your move as stress free as possible

There’s no two ways about it, if you’re moving home it can be a stressful business, but at Perry’s our years of experience in relocation has given us some know-how on how to take the stress out of your move.

Perry Removals offering stress free moving

Give yourself enough time. Organisation is key! Declutter your home well in advance of your move. You can start doing this as early as when you begin looking for a new house. Sell any valuable items you no longer need and give the rest away for free by taking it to charity shops or using a website like Freecyle (www.freecycle.org).

Book your removals company asap. Give us a call as soon as you know your removals date so that we can be sure to fit you in! We’ll be happy to give you a free quote and discuss any extras you might require such as storage, packing and unpacking.

Make a packing plan and start packing early. Leaving everything until the last minute is always stressful, so if you are doing your own packing, start packing some things that you want to keep but don’t need every day as soon as you can. If you don’t feel rushed, packing will become a much more enjoyable experience. Alternatively, you could take all the stress out of the task by asking us to do it for you! Find out more…

Doing your own packing. If you’re packing yourself remember to make an inventory as you go and label your boxes (and not to put too many heavy things in one box!). Our packing guide can help you. You can purchase any boxes and packing materials you need from us to make the task easier and keep your possessions safer. It’s also wise to have one or two boxes that contain essentials for moving day and make sure they’re loaded into the van last, or alternatively you could put them in your car to take yourself.

Tell your service providers. Let your service providers know you are moving in advance so that you don’t end up with two bills! We have a useful list of who you may need to tell when you move. You may be surprised at how many companies, services and people there are!

Arrange insurance. If you’ve done your own packing, then check if your home insurance policy will cover your goods during the move. Be assured, that if we pack for you your goods will be fully covered by our removals insurance, so in the (unlikely!) event that any of your goods are damaged in transit the claim will not affect your home insurance premiums. Also, remember to call your insurer to see if you can transfer your building and house contents insurance to your new home. You’ll need to do this at least 48 hours in advance of your move.

Think about the children. If possible, it can be a good idea to ask a friend or relative to look after your children for the day so that you don’t have to worry about how they are (or what they’re up to!).

Look after your pets. Keep them somewhere quiet or you could ask a friend to look after them for you. Above all you want to prevent your pets from becoming stressed. Have a look at our handy blog full of useful information on all the considerations of moving with your pets, from fish to birds to dogs! Find out more…

After the hard work of moving day give yourself a break, celebrate and get a takeaway. You could employ us to unpack your boxes or if not, they can wait to get unpacked until tomorrow!
